About Course

Course Overview

Jing Fang is a classical approach to Chinese herbal medicine. It is based on the Shang Han Za Bing Lun, a Han Dynasty text dating from the turn of the last millenium. This text has been key to the development of Chinese herbal medicine over the last 2000 years, and the formulas contained in it form a cohesive body of knowledge that is practical and applicable in today’s world.

This course is an introduction and comprehensive overview of the Jing Fang system of diagnosis and herbal medicine prescription using the Six Syndrome Differentiation System of Dr Feng Shi-Lun.

The course is typically taken over two years, although it is possible to do it slower or faster than this.

In each year there are four primary components:

  1. Five modules of online audio lectures with accompanying pdfs and quizzes, and an online forum. Each module contains between 2 and 5 lectures: 20 lectures over the year.
  2. Five individual supervisions with one of our teachers (in person or online) to clarify any aspect of the lectures and Jing Fang theory, as well as to support your application of Jing Fang in your own clinical practice
  3. Five group discussion group sessions (online) to discuss the theory and practical application of Jing Fang
  4. Ten online clinical group practice and discussion sessions in real time
  5. A block of three in person clinical practice and discussion days to meet your colleagues in person and deepen your knowledge of this extraordinary medicine

In addition, to graduate from the course, students need to attend two outsourced courses. These only need to be attended once during the two years:

  1. A one day in person dispensary course at Bristol Chinese Herb Garden
  2. A two day online pharmacology and phytochemistry course in real time

The two outsourced components are paid directly to the course providers.

The SCCH course in Jing Fang Classical Herbalism has achieved level 2 of the EHTPA accreditation process, which allows graduates to become a member of the RCHM (Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine, UK).
