New Courses at the School of Classical Chinese Medicine
We are currently working on some exciting improvements to the courses we offer at the School of Classical Chinese Herbalism.
From this coming Autumn, we will be offering two new courses for students of Chinese medicine:
- The Jing Fang Qualification: a course for students who are new to herbal medicine, looking to add herbs to their treatment toolkit.
- Jing Fang CPD: a course for qualified herbalists who would like to know more about Classical Herbal Medicine, Jing Fang and Six Syndrome Differentiation.
Jing Fang Qualification
The major change is a new ‘hybrid’ course for students who are new to herbal medicine and are interested in Classical Chinese Medicine. This course aims to guide students in the Jing Fang system, enabling them to diagnose patients in the Six Syndrome Pattern Differntiation system, prescribe herbs, understand changes in symptoms and modify their formulas for profound patient outcomes. The information is delivered both online and in-person.
This course consists of:
- Pre-recorded lectures: these lectures cover the Jing Fang system in depth, inculding detailed information on the diagnostic process, properties of herbs, actions of formulas, and combinations and modifications. Students can access these lectures whenever the like and wherever they are, allowing them to learn at their own pace, as well as rewatch as many times as is needed.
- One-to-one tutorials with the course tutors to resolve questions and deepen knowledge of Classical Chinese medicine.
- Online theory study groups with experienced herbalists to discuss and crystalise the information in the lectures.
- Online case study groups to discuss case studies from students’ own practices.
- Online clinical sessions, where students can observe an experienced practitioner diagnose, prescribe and modify herbal formulas using Jing Fang and the Six Syndrome dignostic process.
- In person clinical days, where students can take tongue and pulse readings, as well as observe the therapeutic process. In person clinics also give students the opportunity to contribute more directly to this process, as well as experience in using and managing a herbal dispensary.
Once completed, SCCH’s Jing Fang Qualification will give practitioners the tools to diagnose and understand their patients symptoms from Jing Fang perspective, as well as the confidence to prescribe herbs, and navigate and respond to the changes that patients experience.

Jing Fang CPD
Practitioners who are already practising TCM herbalists can deepen their understanding of Classical Chinese Medicine with our Jing Fang CPD course. This course provides a complete, in-depth understanding of Jing Fang and Six Syndrome diagnosis, along with the Classical perspective on herbs and formulas from the Shang Han Lun (Classic of Cold Damage) and Jin Gui (Golden Cabinet of Essential Prescriptions).
The information is provided via 40 pre-recorded lectures.
If further support is needed practitioners also have the option of one-to-one tutorials, as well as to join the regular online discussion groups or clinical sessions.
