At the School of Classical Chinese Herbalism, we offer several ways to study Jing Fang. The foundational material is the Live Lecture series, which covers the theory and application of Jing Fang. You can also join Clinical sessions, with experienced Jing Fang practitioners. We also run regular supervision and discussion sessions. Lastly, there are the ‘Live Lectures’ – one off lectures on specific subjects.

The lectures
Our Jing Fang Lecture Series is a complete introduction to the Jing Fang classical herbal medicine system.
Written and presented by Frances Turner, the Series is a systematic A-Z presentation of the fundamentals of Jing Fang and includes over 60 hours of audio lectures with PDF slides.
With classical references to the Shang Han Za Bing Lun, the Jin Gui Yao Lue and the Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing, the Series includes detailed discussions of both herbs and formulas. The Series is illustrated by many modern-day case examples from the clinics of Dr Feng Shi-Lun in Beijing from 2014 to 2016, and from our own SCCH.
The Jing Fang Lecture Series will provide practitioners with:
- An understanding of the Jing Fang system and of Six Syndrome pattern differentiation
- Information of classically used herbs (category, temperature, taste, and actions)
- An understanding of how to combine herbs to create herb pairs with unique properties
- Detailed information of classical formulas and their actions, as well as an understanding of how they are used along side Six Syndrome diagnosis
- Key formula modifications that are commonly used in clinic

Clinical Practise
Our aim at The School of Classical Herbalism is that students understand Jing Fang herbs in a way that is clinically effective.
We therefore run regular Clinical Sessions, which demonstrate the theory of Jing Fang being applied in ‘real world’ situations. During these sessions, students can observe an experienced Jing Fang practitioner taking cases and prescribing herbs to Classical principles and theory. Time is also set aside for discussion, during which the practitioner will elaborate on the thinking behind the diagnosis, prescription, formula and modifications used, as well as answer any other questions on Jing Fang, Six Syndrome Differentiation and any other aspects of Classical Herbalism.

Tutorial Sessions
As well as the foundational material that the Lecture Series provides, and the opportunity to see Jing Fang working in the clinical environment in the Clinical Sessions, we also run regular Tutorial sessions. These sessions provide a discussion forum, lead by an experienced Jing Fang practitioner, where students can bring questions about any aspect of Jing Fang Classical Herbalism. Particular empasis is placed on Jing Fang as it applies to the clinic, and students are encouraged to bring in cases from their own practise for discussion.
The primary purpose of these sessions is to provide support to clinicians starting their Jing Fang journey in applying Six Syndrome Differentiation and Classical Herbalism to their own practise in a way that is clinically effective.
We run both Group and Individual tutorial sessions.
These sessions take place on Zoom.

Testimonials from patients, students and graduates.
I have been very lucky to meet Frances Turner and study the Jing Fang tradition you have shared all over the world. It’s a truly wonderful medicine, which I absolutely love to continue learning and practicing. So many have benefited from these teachings.
Thank you for bringing Jing Fang into my life, it has done miracles for my health…I feel so privileged to have discovered this lineage.
Frances does a wonderful job of teaching Jing Fang to us in England, online and in person. It has transformed my herbal practice into being more effective, with quicker results, and being more curative.
Dr Feng, you have turned my world upside-down with this wonderful Jing Fang system… reading your case histories is inspirational.
It has been the single most helpful thing I’ve done for my health – it’s been life changing.
It is such a privilege to be studying the Jing Fang Apprenticeship with Frances Turner, and I cannot wait to incorporate this incredible system into my practice to help patients.
Your depth of knowledge, as well as your warmth and willingness to share it, have made the last two years the most important and enjoyable of my career to date.
It has been rewarding and challenging to use this medicine. Every patient is a teacher!
It has been the most remarkable and fulfilling educational experience I have ever had, because the learning is done through observing real patients and seeing how Frances diagnoses and treats them. Every week I’m there, I learn something new whether it is about herbs or formulas or syndromes. And being at the clinic is always hugely interesting. Doing Frances’s course and learning the Jing Fang pattern diagnosis has changed the way I treat my own patients as an acupuncturist.
It has been the most remarkable and fulfilling educational experience I have ever had.
The Jing Fang introductory lectures are extremely useful. The information is explained in a very clear and structured manner, with case studies that illustrate all the different formula patterns. The audio is a bonus. These lectures provide a very solid base that complement the practical side of the apprenticeship and help consolidate your learning.
Jing fang has given me a way of understanding herbal medicine that is both profound and effective. For that I am eternally grateful!
